Texas Congressman Ron Wright died on Feb 7, 2021 after testing positive for the coronavirus, according to a Feb 8 statement from his campaign. He was 67.

Wright had begun a quarantine on Jan 15 and later tested positive for the virus on Jan. 21, according to NPR.

Representative Wright is the first sitting member of Congress to die after being diagnosed with COVID-19, NPR reports.

In December 2020, Louisiana Congressman-elect Luke Letlow died of COVID-19 at age 41. Letlow was the first member-elect to die of the coronavirus.
