An new long-term ventilation center for patients in the UK has been named Best Acute Hospital Development in the prestigious Building Better Healthcare Awards.

The Lane Fox REMEO Respiratory Centre at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill is the UK’s first purpose-built unit to ‘wean’ respiratory patients from mechanical ventilation and enable them to eventually return home. It operates as a satellite to the Lane Fox Respiratory Unit at St Thomas’ Hospital.

“Moving patients from intensive care to an environment more conducive to recovery aids their recovery and enables their transition home,” said Dr Nicholas Hart, clinical director of the Lane Fox Respiratory Unit at St Thomas’ Hospital and the Lane Fox REMEO Respiratory Centre.
