In a video interview with Healio.com, Jason Newland, MD, MEd, medical director of patient safety and systems reliability at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, discusses his own personal experience treating patients with enterovirus D68.

According to Newland, the majority of cases seen at the hospital have been respiratory illnesses, but neurologic illness could be part of this virus.

He urges clinicians to be aware of this possibility and consider children for EV-D68 if they present with respiratory illnesses prior to limb weakness.
