An emergency cache of 10 Dräger Carina ventilators will be made available for immediate dispatch to hospitals stricken with emergency situations, according to a company press release. The Carina is a compact, convenient and easy-to-use ventilator designed for both adult and pediatric patients.

The ventilators are being made available thanks to cooperation with Intensive Care On-line Network (ICON), and are part of Dräger’s corporate philosophy of “Technology for Life,” the company said.

Recent natural disasters, including Hurricane Sandy and the catastrophic tornado that struck Joplin, Mo., have proven that emergency preparedness and standard response protocols save lives, Dräger added in a press release.

Should an event take place in the future, one call to ICON’s 24/7/365 support center (1-866-404-ICON [4266]) will initiate the response and the ICON team will arrange for delivery via FedEx priority shipment.

“Dräger and ICON are pleased to bring together this contingency resource for both customers and other hospitals to provide best-in-class services and support when they’re needed most,” said Edwin Coombs, director of Marketing, Draeger Inc. “Our clinical support staff at ICON is also prepared to help with online training and provide telephone guidance for hospitals, should the need arise.”
