According to US News & World Report’s annual top 25 list of best healthcare jobs, respiratory therapist was ranked #16. Dentist (#1), physician’s assistant (#2) and nurse practitioner (#3) were rated the “best.”
The report notes that respiratory therapists in the US have a median income of $58,670 and an unemployment rate of only 0.8%.
“Given future healthcare needs, [the respiratory therapy] field looks promising for job prospects. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates employment growth of about 23%, amounting to 30,400 new positions, by 2026,” the report says.
