Masimo Corp, Irvine, Calif, completed a system-wide implementation of its SET pulse oximetry and its Rainbow SET technology platform at the University of San Francisco Medical Center.

The decision to use Masimo’s product was based on an extensive comparison of pulse oximetry technologies, which led UCSF Medical Center to find that Masimo’s platform gave accurate measurements under difficult conditions, including patient motion and low perfusion.

“Previously, low perfusion and patient motion were two of our toughest challenges and the biggest obstacles to obtaining the accurate and reliable SpO2 measurements we rely on to guide our treatment decision,” says Patricia Roth, MD, medical director of anesthesia operating room support services, and associate professor of anesthesia and perioperative care, UCSF Medical Center.

The Rainbow SET was added to the adoption because it is the first device to noninvasively measure physiologic and hemodynamic components.
