PVI is an index that has been demonstrated as an accurate predictor of fluid responsiveness in mechanically ventilated patients. The index is automatically derived from the Masimo plethysmographic waveform. PVI is designed to help clinicians detect when a patient’s cardiac function is compromised.
A numerical Masimo PVI value is continuously displayed on Masimo Rainbow SET Pulse CO-Oximeters, which may help to determine if a patient is dehydrated or over-hydrated.
