Covidien, Boulder, Colo, announced that its Nellcor™ OxiMax™ pulse oximetry system has been integrated into Nihon Kohden’s BSM-9100 series of bedside monitors, to enable clinicians to have concurrent access to both technologies.

The OxiMax pulse oximetry system has been integrated with the Nihon Kohden BSM-6000 line of bedside monitors since 2008. This continued partnership allows medical facilities to use both companies’ technologies. Clinicians using Nihon Kohden monitors will now have access to Covidien’s specialty sensors, such as the Max-Fast™ forehead sensor and SoftCare™ nonadhesive sensors for patients with sensitive skin. These specialty sensors work only with the Nellcor OxiMax pulse oximetry system.

“The integration of our OxiMax technology into Nihon Kohden monitors provides clinicians with greater flexibility in choosing pulse oximetry technology for optimal patient care,” said David Sheppard, vice president, OEM Channel Strategy, Covidien, in the announcement. “This will extend the reach of our technology, making it available to an even greater number of clinicians for enhanced patient care.”

“We are excited to be able to partner with Covidien on this integrated offering of monitoring systems,” said Fumio Hirose, general manager, Corporate Planning, Nihon Kohden Corp. “Nihon Kohden’s bedside monitoring products, used in tandem with the OxiMax pulse oximetry system, provide a clear advantage to clinicians and their patients.”
