The respiratory program at Polk State College in Lakeland, Fla received a Distinguished RRT Credentialing Success Award from the Commission on Accreditation.

The award comes after the commission reviewed three years of Polk State respiratory data. A total of 60 schools received the award out of its 440 available applicants.

“And that’s nice because that puts us in the top 14th or 15th percentile of best in the nation,” said Kathee Ford, respiratory program director.

Polk State graduated its first respiratory care class in 2008 and has had only 70 graduates total. Most of those graduates have gone on to work for emergency departments at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center or Winter Haven Hospital. Some have landed jobs in home care or in sales at medical device companies.
