Massachusetts has seen a spike in pediatric emergency room visits due to breathing trouble, evidence that Enterovirus 68 (EV-D68) may have reached the state.

No cases have been confirmed thus far, but the CDC is currently testing samples.

Symptoms of EV-D68 are usually mild, barely distinguishable from a common cold. However, a small percentage of kids develop intense wheezing or uncontrollable coughing — and need to be hospitalized.
