The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) continues to investigate a cluster of Legionnaires’ disease cases after six patients from Chaves County were confirmed with the pneumonia-causing disease in October.

Two of the six cases, a 69-year-old woman and a 65-year-old woman, died. All six patients had other health issues that increased the risk of infection. According to NMDOH press release, the department is continuing their work to determine the source of the infections alongside Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. According to the release, no cases have been reported in Otero County.

“We are working with the patients and their family members to determine if there is a common link or exposure among the patients,” said Department of Health Secretary Lynn Gallagher.
