According to the CDC, the number of measles cases in the US has surged to 695, the most since 1994.

There are 695 measles cases in 22 states, which is not only the highest since measles was declared eradicated in 2000 (passing the 667 cases in 2014), but the highest since 1994, when 958 cases were reported.

The high number of cases this year are mainly due to the three largest outbreaks: one in Washington state and two in New York that started in late 2018, the CDC said. The agency also cited figures from the World Health Organization, which reported a 300% spike in measles cases worldwide in the first 3 months of 2019 versus the same period last year.
