So far, this flu season in the United States there has been 43,153 documented influenza cases, according to the CDC’s influenza update for 2022 Week 7.

The 43,153 documented flu cases represent just 2.6% of all samples tested in laboratory settings, the latest CDC FluView report shows. This week 1,807 cases tested positive for all strains of flu with a slight uptick in the positivity rate. Most positive cases are influenza A.

The report cautioned that recorded cases numbers might not accurately reflect the levels of circulating flu virus. “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare-seeking behaviors have changed, and people may be accessing the health care system in alternative settings,” the CDC report says.

Additionally, just 1.5% of documented patient visits to healthcare providers were dues to respiratory illness that included fever plus a cough or sore throat. This percentage is below the national baseline.

The number of flu cases varies by region, but most states are reporting very low levels of influenza.
