According to Healio, Daiichi Sankyo has issued a voluntary recall for two of its vaccine products.

The company recalled six lots of its freeze-dried, live-attenuated measles, rubella combined vaccine, also known as “Kitasatodaiichisankyo;” and two lots of its freeze-dried, live-attenuated measles virus vaccine, also known as “Kitasatodaiichisankyo,” due to potency issues related to the measles virus component.

The release said there have been no reports of any direct patient impact related to the safety or efficacy of either product. Stability monitoring revealed the possibility that the recalled products did not meet the measles virus potency levels required for them to maintain shelf-life efficacy. Company officials also are investigating products apart from those listed in this recall to confirm that potency of all products meets the approved standard.

“Daiichi Sankyo and Kitasato Daiichi Sankyo wish to express their sincere apologies to medical professionals and the families of children who received or are targeted for inoculation with [these products] for any worry caused as a result of this recall,” according to the release.

The vaccine products indicated for this recall include both multidose bottles and single person dosage packages.
