Smiths Medical, Carlsbad, Calif, part of the global technology business Smiths Group, is set to debut its newest addition to its line of bronchial hygiene products—the acapella® duet vibratory PEP therapy system—at the American Association for Respiratory Care 52nd International Respiratory Congress held in Las Vegas, December 11-14, 2006.

The acapella duet vibratory PEP therapy system is the newest member of the acapella family of products that now offers two therapy options in one treatment session: vibratory PEP and aerosolized medication. Acapella duet features a new streamlined body which contains a built-in port that accommodates most small volume nebulizers. Clinicians will be able to deliver small volume nebulizer treatments and conveniently mobilize secretions at the same time.

“Our customers asked for a vibratory PEP therapy product with a more streamlined design that would accommodate nebulizer treatments, and we listened,” said Fred Richards, director of research and business development for Smiths Medical Research and Development. “In response to our customers’ requests, we designed an acapella therapy system with a built-in port that facilitates simultaneous administration of vibratory PEP therapy and small volume nebulizer treatments.”
