The American Lung Association hosted its Chicago Lung Force Expo on April 30 in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill, and featured Northwestern Medicine pulmonologist and nationally recognized lung disease expert Ravi Kalhan, MD.

Dr. Kalhan is the director of the Northwestern Medicine Asthma and COPD Program where comprehensive care is provided to patients with asthma and COPD at all stages of severity. He also serves as Professor of Medicine and Preventative Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and medical director of the lung volume reduction surgery program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Kalhan presented on the latest COPD updates, including the innovative guidelines and newer therapies.

“Here in Illinois, more than 600,000 people suffer from COPD so it is vital to educate physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists on early diagnosis and better treatments to improve the quality of life for these patients,” said Felicia Fuller, DrPH, director of health promotions for the Lung Association. “Dr Kalhan is leading some of most promising clinical trials to develop new therapies in COPD and also asthma. His passion for reducing the burden of COPD and his experience in treating patients will result in an important educational session for our local and regional healthcare providers.”

The Lung Force Expo is designed to educate health professionals, people who suffer from lung disease and caregivers about the latest trends, resources and research surrounding lung cancer, COPD, asthma and other respiratory diseases.
