COPD patients discharged with a care bundle intervention had significantly lower 30-day readmission rates compared to a control group, according to research presented at Chest 2018.

Patients admitted for acute exacerbations of COPD who received the bundle intervention had a 30-day readmission rate of 22.2%, compared with a readmission rate of 32.7% among patients with similar characteristics treated at the hospital pre-intervention, according to Moira Kendra, DNP, of Atlantic Health System in Morristown, New Jersey, and colleagues.

Sixty- and 90-day readmission rates were also lower in the discharge care bundle intervention group, according to Kendra.
