A Ryanair passenger was detained by Spanish authorities after he opened the aircraft’s emergency exit while the plane sat on the tarmac after he complained of an asthma attack.

The plane is said to have been sat on the tarmac for about an hour after it landed in Spain before the man opened the door.

Passenger Fernando Del Valle Villalobos said: “He activated the emergency door and left, saying, ‘I’m going via the wing.’ It was surreal.”

He was ordered back onto the plane until Civil Guard officers arrived to question him.

Raj Mistry, who sat next to the man on the plane, told MailOnline: ‘It seems nobody noticed that the man who decided to exit the plan was suffering from asthma. … I was talking to him throughout the flight and there was a few times he was using his inhaler. He also took medication just before the flight took off.”
