The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) today announced the debut of a much needed consumer resource, the Patient’s Guide to Sleep Evaluations.

The aim of the four-page guide is to demystify the process of diagnosing sleep problems by letting readers know what to expect during a sleep study, offering suggestions on finding the right physician, sleep facility and sleep technologist to conduct the evaluation properly and listing important questions to ask.

“There is a severe lack of consumer information about polysomnograms and overnight sleep studies,” explained Bonnie Robertson, RPSGT, CRT, and President of BRPT.

Both organizations anticipate that the new guide will be used directly by consumers, as well as by sleep professionals as a patient education tool.
