With military recruits facing the risk of respiratory illness caused by adenovirus, a vaccine produced by Teva Pharmaceuticals in Forest has reduced the rate of illnesses by more than 90% since 2011.

Teva has a five-year contract to produce the drug for the Department of Defense.  The agreement has allowed Teva to build an addition to its Forest complex.

Money from the government contract is supporting other aspects of the Teva plant, which is Bedford County’s largest private employer.

“We make a meaningful product.  It’s making a difference in people’s lives in the military and it’s been very successful, so we’re very pleased and proud to produce this product in partnership with the department of defense,” said Eric Bonner, general manager of the Forest plant.
